"I would like to thank the USO Rome staff for all the assistance they provided during our stay in Rome. Our stay was originally planned for 2 days but was involuntarily extended because all flights out of Rome into England were cancelled due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland. By the time we made it back to London we had stayed in Italy an extra 5 days, which cost us a substantial amount of money. Donna Cafaro was very helpful from start to finish and made this extended stay bearable. Donna booked our lodging, transportation in Rome and Civitavecchia, and arranged for all the interesting tours in Rome. This was a blessing because I didn’t know anything about arranging all these things within Rome and heard that many of the tourist type businesses are not reputable. When we found out that our stay may be extended, Donna was willing to help in any way she could. She stayed late to allow me to research and arrange transportation back to London. When I had trouble arranging the transportation from Rome via train Donna and her co-worker Patriana helped with arranging the transportation via a local travel agency that didn’t speak fluent English. During our stay there were times when no transportation home could be arranged and Donna helped us by arranging outstanding excursions to pass the time, which eased the tension my family was feeling while we were stranded in Rome.
